Laminate

Synthetic, hard surface material designed to mimic stone or wood at a lower price point. Features a medium or high-density fiber core that varies in thickness.

Wear Layer

High-quality polyurethane layers provide surface protection, often made with aluminum oxide or ceramic bead technology The thicker the wear layer, the more durable the floor.

Aluminum Oxide

Chemical reinforced top wear layer of vinyl flooring that increases durability against abrasion, such as scratches and scuffs.

Decorative Layer

This printed layer underneath the wear layer showcases the realistic design such as hardwood, natural stone, and patterned visuals.

Fiberboard Core

The middle layer of a laminate floor made from softwood fibers that provides greater stability and impact resistance.

Floating Installation

Planks click together with patented locking systems, do not need to be glued to the underlayment or subfloor, and can often be installed over existing flooring.

Glue Down Installation

Uses adhesive to glue the laminate flooring to the subfloor and creates dimensional stability so that the flooring stays structurally sound in heavy traffic.

Underlayment

Padding or cushion under the flooring that adds benefits including noise reduction, moisture barrier, mold inhibitor, greater comfort, and longer performance.

Waterproof

Features locking mechanisms engineered to lock out topical water penetration at the joints, warranted to not allow water to permeate through the top or bottom.

Moldings

Slightly larger for laminate floors than for wood or ceramic tile, these trim pieces cover the space that allows flooring expansion and transitions adjacent floors.

T-Moldings

Used in doorways to join two laminate floors in adjoining rooms, and when making transitions from a laminate floor to another floor of the same height.

Square Nosing

Also called universal edge, this is used where laminate flooring meets up to carpeting or various vertical surfaces where the edge will be exposed.
